Fabric Care Guide

Created using only the finest materials, Morpho + Luna’s exquisite pieces are made to last, and we want you to enjoy wearing them for as long as possible. Many of our products are machine washable, but we recommend hand-washing or dry-cleaning for some of our more delicate or structured items. To help you look after your Morpho + Luna garments, we have put together this care guide, based on our extensive knowledge of fabrics from our family heritage in the textile industry. If you have any other questions or concerns about how best to care for your garments, please contact us via our website or send an email to info@morphoandluna.com and we will be happy to help.

Cotton & Linen

Most of our everyday cotton and linen pieces are machine washable at 30 degrees, on a delicate programme. Use a good biological detergent, and launder them regularly. In fact, these fabrics – especially the ajour linen – will get softer and softer the more you wash them. They can then be dried on a rack or line and, for best results, should be ironed while still slightly damp. For some of our more tailored pieces, we recommend dry-cleaning, just as you would with a coat or blazer.

Cashmere, Wool & Velvet

Some of our lightweight cashmere and wool pieces can be washed carefully by hand, using a mild detergent in a basin of cool to lukewarm water. Soak for half an hour and then rinse with running water until it runs clear. Squeeze gently to remove excess water and then dry on a rack. Designed to be laundered less often, the heavyweight fabrics used for garments such as our velvet and pashmina cashmere robes should be professionally dry-cleaned only.

Silk

Our delicate silk garments can be either dry-cleaned or carefully hand-washed and then rack or line dried. Iron while still damp, on a low/delicate setting. For some of our more tailored pieces, we recommend professional dry-cleaning only.

Speciality Fabrics

Our cotton-and-silk blend garments can be either dry-cleaned or washed by hand. Immerse items in a basin of cool to lukewarm water and add a mild detergent. Soak for half an hour and then rinse with running water until the water runs clear. Squeeze gently to remove excess water and then dry on a rack, before ironing on a low/delicate setting.

Stains

Stains should be treated as soon as possible, and we recommend applying a liquid stain remover before washing. For tough stains, you may need to apply the stain remover and then leave the item to soak before washing. You can use hot water on stains on cottons and linens, but never on silk or wool.

Fabric Softners

We don’t recommend using fabric softeners when washing your Morpho + Luna garments, as they are already silky soft, and will retain their natural beauty for longer. And cottons and linens will continue to soften the more you wash them!

Bleach

We don’t recommend using chlorine bleach on your delicate loungewear and nightwear, as it will weaken the fabric and reduce its lifespan.

Machine Washing

Many of our items can be washed at 30 or 40 degrees (check label for details) and you should always wash like colours together. We recommend putting anything that features delicate detailing (such as decorative buttons or lace) in a mesh washing bag to protect it in the machine.

Drying

We don’t recommend tumble-drying any of our garments. Silk can shrink in high temperatures and delicate items can lose elasticity and shape when tumble-dried. We recommend drying wool garments flat so that they retain their shape. Silk can be laid flat or hung to dry, but do not hang in direct sunlight.

Ironing

It’s best to iron fabrics when they are still slightly damp, as it’s more gentle on them. Silk should always be ironed on a low heat, whereas linens and cottons can be ironed on a high heat. It’s a good idea to iron garments inside out, and when ironing monograms or embroidery, iron on the opposite side and on top of a towel so that the embroidery doesn’t flatten.

Storing

Keep your freshly washed Morpho + Luna garments in a dry place (avoid damp attics and basements). For long-term storage, we recommend using cotton bags and/or acid-free paper to keep out insects and avoid deterioration.
