ON THE WINGS OF ITALIAN EXCELLENCE

We are pleased to share a recent feature on Morpho + Luna in La Réserve Magazine N°34 (Winter / Spring 2025–2026), the editorial publication of Michel Reybier Hospitality devoted to craftsmanship, culture, and the art of living.

In a conversation with journalist Anne-Marie Clerc, our founder Cécile Gavazzi reflects on the story behind the brand, its origins, the artisans who bring its pieces to life, and the philosophy that shapes its quietly elegant world.

We invite you to discover the full conversation below.

“Renowned for its limited-edition silk homewear collections and refined household linens, the Italian brand Morpho + Luna was founded in 2014 by Cécile Gavazzi Daccó.

How did the Morpho + Luna brand come about?

“I started with a bathrobe and pajamas, driven by the desire to revive the elegance and craftsmanship of the European—and more specifically Italian—tradition of loungewear. I was reading a book at the time about Pannonica, a woman named after a rare butterfly. Fascinated by these creatures, I discovered Morpho, a blue butterfly from South America, and Luna, a luminous and elusive white moth. Morpho + Luna reflects this duality—strength and softness, light and shadow, the visible and the hidden. Wearing one of our pieces at home, for yourself alone, becomes almost a private ritual. You feel beautiful without seeking to be seen, and there is something powerfully soothing about that.”

What role do artisanal techniques and traditional know-how play?

“Craftsmanship is at the heart of Morpho + Luna – that’s where the beauty truly begins. Italy possesses extraordinary textile expertise. The dedication, skill, passion, and creativity of the fabric makers are unparalleled. It is a privilege to collaborate with them – from artisan weavers in Tuscany or the Marche region, lacemakers in Puglia, and dyers – to printers like Mantero, who perpetuate the art of silk printing and share invaluable archives.”

The very essence of Morpho + Luna is to create rare pieces that unite contemporary sensibility and ancestral know-how. Each one reflects the meeting of heart, mind, and hand, a story of patience and the quiet beauty of things made with care.

Can you tell us about your sources of inspiration?

“Each season is born from an emotion, an image, a place, a journey, an exhibition… For our 2026 collection, I draw particular inspiration from Mary Delany, an 18th-century English artist who created nearly a thousand extraordinarily delicate botanical collages, now housed in the British Museum. A century before her, Maria Sibylla Merian, a visionary artist and naturalist, observed and painted the transformation of butterflies, uniting art and science in a way that was unprecedented for her time. I find in their works the same energy of rebirth and transformation.”

What materials do you use?

“Among natural fibers, silk holds a very special place. It possesses a silent intelligence, a way of reflecting light and embracing the body that makes it both comforting and refined. It also carries a personal heritage. In the 18th and 19th centuries, in the Valmadrera region near Lake Como, the Gavazzi family helped to establish the Italian silk industry. I wanted to reinterpret this history through a contemporary and feminine sensibility. Today, the tradition continues through ReSilk®️, an upcycled silk developed by Mantero, made from surplus fibers, transformed into a luxurious and new fabric, as soft and warm as cashmere.”

A limited edition La Réserve Paris x Morpho + Luna

The "Suite 504" capsule collection celebrates La Réserve Paris's 10th anniversary with unique silk pieces: a pajama set, a kimono, and a reversible eye mask. It marks a meeting of two houses sharing the same values and spirit. "La Réserve embodies intimacy, beauty, and understated refinement—that feeling of peace and warmth one experiences in a place where everything has been carefully considered. For us, the connection was natural, as Morpho + Luna is based on these same ideas of comfort, discretion, and timeless elegance," explains Cécile Gavazzi Daccó. "What touched me most was the authenticity of this collaboration, a true co-creation."

With Anne-Flore Reybier, we dreamt of the encounter between a butterfly, a symbol of transformation at Morpho + Luna, and the little elephant – a benevolent guardian and emblem of La Réserve. From this harmony of elements – lightness and grounding, air and earth – the motif was born, a poetic dance between two worlds.”
